The rings and moons of Saturn through a telescope: guaranteed to blow you away! On September 8, Saturn reaches “Opposition” - its closest approach to the Earth this year - so it will look as big and bright as we ever see it. The rings are nearly edge-on right now, like a narrow little sliver. Naturalist Dave Sutherland welcomes first timers and repeat pilgrims who wish to glimpse the rings once again. If everyone gets bored with Saturn, we’ll look for other deep sky marvels as well. Meet at Joder Ranch Trailhead, north of Boulder.

Where and when to meet: Meet at 9:00 PM at the Joder Ranch Trailhead, 7481 North Foothills Highway (aka Highway 36). Joder Ranch is part of the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks - click here for info and directions. Google maps shows it as just the Joder Trailhead.
