Many would-be birders are intimidated by identical little birds with similar names. Can’t tell a Yellow-breasted Noddlehatch from a White-winged Towhagen? Then join Naturalist Dave Sutherland for a fun, kid-friendly introduction to birds at Sawhill Ponds. Bring binoculars and bird guides if you have them, although some will be supplied. We’ll probably see some songbirds, some geese and ducks, and with luck some surprises too! Dave will bring a spotting scope for up-close views. Consider strap-on traction for footwear (e.g. micro-spikes or Yaktrax) since the trail may be very slick and icy.
Where to meet: Meet at the Sawhill Ponds trailhead (Please don’t go to the adjacent Walden Ponds!) From 75th St, turn west on the dirt road at about 0.6 miles miles north of Valmont Rd and travel about 0.4 miles to the trailhead. Directions and more here.
