The South Boulder Creek trail starts in plains riparian woodland with small ponds, traverses sections of tallgrass and shortgrass prairie, and ascends gently into foothills scrub habitat. We will walk up to four miles on trails that have modest elevation gain but can be somewhat rocky in spots. This is a good location for migrating sparrows, resident birds of the low foothills, and the start of prairie "fall colors". Basic restroom facilities are available at the trailhead and there is a parking fee of $5 for cars not registered in Boulder County.

Where to meet: Meet at the South Boulder Creek West trailhead (South Boulder Creek trailhead on google maps) on the west side of Highway 93, just over 1/2 mile north of the intersection of Hwy 93 and Hwy 170/Marshall Road. Click here for directions and additional info about the area.
