James Beissel is on a quest to seek out and photograph Colorado’s most elusive and endangered mammals. Through words and photos, his mission is to share their stories and promote their conservation. A lifelong climber, he has climbed rock, ice, and snow routes throughout the US, worked as a guide and instructor, and volunteered in mountain rescue. As a photographer, he has documented some of Colorado’s rarest and most imperiled species, including coming face to face with a Canada lynx and witnessing the return of the black-footed ferret to the Colorado prairie. His work has been published in numerous books and magazines, exhibited in Denver’s Santa Fe Art District, and at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden.
