Exactly 10 years ago this month, Boulder experienced a massive flood that destroyed homes, ended lives and changed the landscape forever. Now, witness a decade of nature’s recovery efforts at one of the most devastated areas - the Anne U. White trail at the north edge of town. Raging floodwaters scoured this canyon down to bedrock and obliterated the trail completely. Its reconstruction took 2 full years. Community naturalist Dave Sutherland will show photos and tell stories about Boulder’s big flood of 2013, and put this major event into geological and ecological perspective. This is an easy hike, about 3 miles round trip.
Where to meet: Meet at the Anne U. White trailhead parking lot, map and directions here. The lot is located off Lee Hill Drive northwest of Boulder - from Lee Hill Drive turn west onto Wagonwheel Gap Road, travel about 1.1 miles and turn left onto Pinto Drive. More info about the trail, including photos, can be found here.
