Limit 20, please RSVP on the Meetup page. If you’re not already a member of Meetup, you’ll need to join to get details and sign up for this event.
It is very important that we have the right number of people to make this work. We can have four tables playing, so please be considerate and only RSVP "yes" for this if you are certain you will attend.
This will be a different kind of Meetup for us. Instead of birding outside, we will play a bird board game inside! James Kirby, a long-time member of our group, offered to lead this for us. This is his write-up:
While colder months may encourage us (and birds) to hunker down and seek shelter, we can still get together for a fun bird-related activity. The board game Wingspan has received rave reviews since its release in 2019, and it features peaceful play mechanics, beautiful pieces and art, and plenty of bird facts. Players take the role of bird enthusiasts striving to attract a variety of birds to their nature preserves.... quite a stretch for us, right? :) Each bird card features an accurate image, habitat map, and proportionate info about their size, diet, and clutch size.
The game was featured on an episode of NPR's Shortwave a couple of years ago, and this 12-minute listen may intrigue you further: https://www.npr.org/2020/02/19/807522590/a-board-game-where-birds-and-science-win
While learning and playing, you are invited to purchase your own drinks, and as usual, our generous sponsor, Boulder County Audubon Society, will provide appetizers.
