The Language of Birds with Nathan Pieplow

Join bird song specialist, Nathan Pieplow, for an evening of song exploration.  Birding by ear opens up new birding opportunities but is frequently a challenge for many bird enthusiasts. Nathan’s research and publications help bring understanding to vocalization with visualization of calls and songs.  Nathan’s new book, Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds of Western North America, provides a guide to visualizing bird vocalizations in a way to better understand them.  The presentation will include how to use visualizations and what additional information can be learned about vocalizations by using this method.

While, we aren’t able to get together for a traditional book tour and book signing, you can still get Nathan’s new book from any of these venders or your own favorite local bookstore: Buteo BooksBarnes & Noble, or Amazon.

Nathan Pieplow is a professor of writing and rhetoric at the University of Colorado.  He is also a specialist in avian vocalizations and the author of The Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds of Eastern North America and The Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds of Western North America. You can learn more about his ongoing research into vocalizations on his site earbirding.org.

When: Tuesday April 28, 2020.   The presentation starting at 7:15 PM. Everyone is encouraged to join early to work through any connection issues (the meeting room will be open at ~7:00 PM).

Where: This meeting will be held online. This presentation was not recorded.
