Teen Naturalists: Behind the Scenes at the Butterfly Pavilion

Leader: Dave Sutherland.
Participant Limit: 15 teen naturalists

The Butterfly Pavilion’s Wings of the Tropics exhibit lets you walk in a rainforest surrounded by free-flying butterflies from around the globe - but it takes a lot of amazing work to make it possible! Go behind the scenes to learn how the butterflies are sourced, shipped from distant lands, and cared for before and after they hatch from their chrysalises. Visit Rosy the Tarantula’s special living quarters, and see how the keepers nurture and display a vast number of living insects and other invertebrates.

This is hands-on and you will have opportunities to handle some of the insects. Cameras encouraged! As always, digital cameras are available to borrow for the program. Please request these while signing up with the trip leader.

Participants may want to stay after the tour to enjoy the Butterfly Pavilion’s exhibits.

Cost: This event is free for teens who register. Boulder County Audubon will cover the cost of admission for the teen participants. Other family members may visit the Butterfly Pavilion but will not be able to attend the behind-the-scenes portion of the tour and must pay their own admission.

Registration Required: Please email Dave Sutherland to sign up, dsutherland4747@gmail.com.

Where to Meet: Meet just outside the entrance to the Butterfly Pavilion, 6252 W 104th Ave, Westminster, CO 80020
