Teen Naturalists: Monarch Butterfly Survey

Leaders: Steve Jones and international filmmaker Yan Chun Su
RSVP is required: Please contact hike leader Steve Jones, 303-579-3620 or curlewsj@comcast.net, to sign up.
Location: South Boulder Creek Trail just south of Boulder

Spend a summer morning searching for monarch butterflies and caterpillars, along with other butterflies, in Boulder's tallgrass prairie preserve. On a good morning, we can expect to see a half-dozen adult monarchs, and we always see other interesting insects, including green mantids and red milkweed beetles. Bring water and snacks; we will probably spend a good amount of time sitting in the tall grasses and in the shade.

Extra cameras are available for anyone who would like to do some close-up photography, please request these when signing up.

Where to meet: Meet at the South Boulder Creek trail, on the west side of South Broadway (SH 93) 1/2 mile north of the Eldorado Springs light at 8.
